He joined politics in 1958 with African National Congress under Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula in 1960; he left the African National Congress and joined the United National Independence Party (UNIP) under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda as President. During the period 1961 -1963, he served as a political prisoner in various prisons.”
