“She was honoured for rendering loyal and distinguished service as a teacher. She married Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe in 1946 and moved to Kitwe. She gave up her profession and became involved in politics to support her husband and family. She played her role by hiding and feeding fugitive freedom fighters, passing messages, hiding printed materials and correspondence throughout the turbulent and dangerous time of the freedom struggle. She held clandestine meetings in her home at the risk of her own life and freedom.”
