“Mr. Patrick Shawa was born on 24th May, 1969 in Lusaka. He has been an outstanding Environmentalist who has dedicated his life to the conservation of the environment and natural resources for over 25 years. Mr. Shawa has been facilitating a Mindset Change program, targeting training of children and adults. Mr. Shawa is the pioneer of the popular Chongololo club for school going children from grade one to seven where lessons in the club focus on Zambia’s Habitats. The Chongololo Club airs on various radio stations countrywide. Further, Mr. Shawa also set up the Chimpembele Club, which focuses on environmental issues. The Club targets Secondary School going children from grade eight to twelve and other community members. Mr. Shawa also contributes to several conservation columns such as Chipululu and Warthog which are published in the Globe newspaper and Sunday Times of Zambia. The objective of his initiatives is to create public awareness and provide a forum for discussion on contentious environmental challenges. In recognition of his outstanding service to sensitize the nation on environmental issues, Mr. Shawa is deserving of an award and this will encourage him and other environmentalists to continue promoting the conservation of the environment and ensure that Zambia attains a green economy. Mr. Shawa has been involved in the formulation of Government Policies on the environment, biodiversity wetlands, climate change, forestry and wildlife. This makes Mr. Shawa deserving of recognition.”
