“He was honoured for his contribution to the freedom struggle. He was the youngest person to join the liberation struggle on a full time basis which led to him being disowned by his family members who belonged to the African National Congress (ANC). One of his outstanding contributions to the struggle for independence was the production and distribution of a Revolution Freedom Fighter Magazine (Intobo), which was distributed secretly throughout the country. Before he was sent for Foreign Service as Zambia Permanent representative at the United Nations in New York, he held several ministerial positions. He was also Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was the youngest person to win a seat as a Councilor of Choma Municipal Council in 1963.”
