“He was honoured for spearheading the struggle for independence since its inception in Northern Rhodesia. After he was secretary of the Isoka Branch of the African National Congress (ANC) IN 1951, He became secretary of the Kasama welfare society and the African Civil Service Association. He moved to Kabwe and become Vice-Chairman of ANC there and Principal organizer of the Action Group, a wing of ANC. He was founder member of the Zambia National African Congress (ZANC) and later UNIP. He was UNIP'S Accountant General and member of parliament (MP) in Lusaka. In March 1959 he was arrested and spent months in restriction in Namwala in Southern Province. After independence, he was appointed Trade Commissioner for Europe and Minister of State in the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.”
