“She was honoured because she was a dedicated woman who worked tirelessly and sincerely for the liberation of this country form the colonial rule. In 1952 she actively organized for the National Congress. In 1955 she worked in Kabwe Region and was arrested and sent to prison. After her release from prison she went back to Mpika and never gave up politics. She remained a true leader and head of the party in Mpika Districk. In 1962 -64 she worked as woman Regional Secretary at Chinsali and was in 1965 -67 transferred in the same capacity to Mpika. During the days of Chachacha Mandalena spent most of her days in the bush hiding but strategizing reiteration to the colonial rgime assults on unarmed Africans.”
